Grants at Work: Adaptive Design Association
Parents, therapists, and teachers of children with physical disabilities have a hard time finding furniture and equipment that fit growing bodies with special needs. Even if the equipment can be tracked down, it can be expensive and last for only a short time before the child outgrows it. Adaptive Design Association has developed ways of making adaptive equipment for these kids out of inexpensive materials that help them learn, eat, socialize, and lead more independent and comfortable lives. The Trust has made grants totaling $255,000 to support the Association's work, and to teach physical and occupational therapists, teachers, and volunteers how to create the adaptive equipment themselves.
