2009 Donor Reception
The 2009 Trust Donor Reception was held at P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center in Long Island City, Queens.
Thank you to all those who replied to our inquiry about what inspires you to do your charitable giving. Here are just a sample of the replies we received:
"We had a private foundation, but year after year it became a hassle to do
the requisite paper work. Then someone suggested checking out The Trust. I
called and spoke to Jane Wilton,
who sounded like she would solve our problems. We had no idea that she was not
exaggerating, and NYCT has not only simplified our lives, but we have felt
well-supported and feel confident in how our money is being spent." — Anonymous Trust

“After many years of volunteering at a local museum and observing the development office trying to raise money, I began to imaging how good it would feel to underwrite special projects. Then one night at a dinner party, the man next to me was telling me how he was involved with New York Community Trust. I went home that night with lots of ideas and called The Trust the next day. A few weeks later I was in Bob Edgar’s office signing papers to begin a wonderful chapter in my life. It has made my life richer.” — Susan Wells Donnell
“The Dutch Kills Civic Association had to find a way to serve in perpetuity for the community funds that it would gain from a sale. The New York Community Trust was the only way to secure those funds for future generations for our community.” — George L. Stamatiades
“Education, Education, Education – to repay (and make others realize their debt) to those who gave us scholarships and opened up worlds to working class kids.” — Joan Winant
“The lives of those from Hoboken, NJ, who perished on 9/11 inspired me to set up a fund to provide a future to students of world trade/international business. It provides an opportunity for the high school to honor the memory of those who passed, while encouraging the town to support the community and offer brighter futures to deserving students.” — Dan Minuticci
