Helping Youth Stay Clean

If you're homeless, jobless, or need health care or help getting off drugs in Sunset Park, Turning Point is the place to turn to. Among its many other services, Turning Point runs an outpatient drug treatment program for youth addicted to drugs. Mandated to the program, these young people have a hard time staying off of drugs. To help them stay clean, a 2008 grant of $70,000 from The Trust is helping Turning Point add a 12-week workshop to help these high-risk youth stay in treatment and develop social and job skills. Two youth workers are running group workshops that focus on teamwork, accountability, problem solving, and community service. The program also offers six-week paid internships for participants at the organization or with local businesses, giving them an opportunity to earn money while they work to change their lives.
