Supporting documentaries that would make Pare Lorentz proud
January, 2011
Pare Lorentz , a pioneer documentary filmmaker, worked for the FDR administration during the Depression. His movies, including The Plow that Broke the Plains, The River, and Fight for Life, are classics of the genre. Today, the Elizabeth Meyer Lorentz Fund, set up in The Trust by his wife, supports the International Documentary Association’s (IDA) Pare Lorentz Fund, which provides grants to documentarians illuminating pressing issues in the United States. The Fund also supports the
Pare Lorentz Film Festival, which is playing at venues across the nation, including at
Union Docs in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
