Fighting Fat with Fun

Almost half of the City's elementary schools do not have usable playgrounds, so it may be no surprise that half the children in these schools are overweight. Playgrounds help fight childhood obesity by giving kids places where they can have fun while getting in the habit of exercising. With a grant of $50,000, The Trust is helping Out2Play refurbish the playgrounds of five elementary schools in poor neighborhoods where children have no other outdoor play space. Children at these schools will also help design, maintain, and paint murals for the playgrounds.
