Music Programs for Kids

Studying music at an early age helps children develop intellectually, emotionally, and socially, but many kids in poor neighborhoods never get a chance to study music.

ArtsConnection was started to remedy this problem, sending professional musicians into schools that have no music classes. With a 2008 $80,000 grant, the organization is matching six musicians trained to teach to young children with three South Bronx schools. One day a week for ten weeks, more than 1,100 kids will sing, move, listen, and play instruments and their teachers will be taught to integrate the music training into their curricula.
