The Henry Street Settlement
Founded in 1893 by Lillian Wald, who started the first visiting nurse service, Henry Street Settlement was among the first settlement houses in the country. Based on the Lower East Side, this long-time Trust grantee still uses the original three row houses, and also provides a broad range social services and arts programs to more than 100,000 New Yorkers of all ages each year at several other sites in the neighborhood.
