Council of Fashion Designers, Vogue, City of New York, and NYC & Co. to Benefit NYC AIDS Fund

New York, Aug. 23—For the second year in a row, the New York City AIDS Fund in The New York Community Trust will be the official charity of Fashion’s Night Out (FNO). Three years ago, FNO was created to revive the City’s fashion industry after the recession—while raising money for charity. On September 8, the streets of New York City will be buzzing with fashion enthusiasts looking to shop, mingle, and spot celebrities. Forty percent of the proceeds from sales of FNO limited edition long- and short-sleeved t-shirts, caps, and totes will go to the AIDS Fund. Other retailers contributing a portion of their sales to the Fund are Bergdorf Goodman, Forsythe Cosmetic Group, J Brand, and True Religion Jeans.

Since it started in 1989, the AIDS Fund has awarded more than $20 million in grants to community organizations that help prevent and treat HIV/AIDS. “With more than half a million dollars from Fashion’s Night Out 2010, the AIDS Fund made 26 grants to agencies seeking to eradicate AIDS in communities most affected by the epidemic—gay men and communities of color,” said Len McNally, chair of the NYC AIDS Fund and program director for health at The New York Community Trust. In 2009, Mayor Bloomberg recognized the Fund for its “tremendous dedication to combating the spread of HIV/AIDS and for providing care to those affected by the disease.”

The following funders currently support the AIDS Fund: Council of Fashion Designers of America/Vogue Initiative, DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS), MAC AIDS Fund, National AIDS Fund/Elton John AIDS Foundation, The New York Community Trust, the Paul Rapoport Foundation, and United Hospital Fund of New York.

About The New York Community Trust

Through the generosity of New Yorkers past and present, The New York Community Trust makes grants for a range of charitable activity important to the well-being and vitality of our city. We’ve helped donors with their philanthropy since 1924.

Grants made from these funds meet the changing needs of children, youth, and families; aid in community development; improve the environment; promote health; assist people with special needs; and support education, arts, and human justice. The Trust ended 2010 with assets of $1.9 billion and made grants totaling $141 million.
