Students Use Video to Explore the Impact of Gun Violence

One downtown media arts group has a message for New York City youth: Pick up a camera, not a gun.
This week, Manhattan’s Downtown Community Television Center is
taking a giant bus around more than a dozen city schools to get
students to make videos and talk about friends and family who have been
killed in gun violence.
The program, called Beyond Bullets
and funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and the New
York Community Trust, will be showing videos in schools across all five
boroughs from its so-called Cybercar, a 40-foot passenger bus with a
mobile TV production studio and viewing screen. (At one point in its
pre-cyber life, the bus transported missionaries around the South.)
