Building an endowment for the City . . . and making it easy for New Yorkers to be philanthropists, today and tomorrow.
Welcome to our Web site. As the New York area’s community foundation, The Trust currently manages over $2 billion in charitable assets, made up of more than 1,800 funds established by individuals, families, and businesses. We made $175 million in grants in 2007.
Since 1924, New Yorkers and their professional advisors have relied on The Trust to help them turn their charitable passions into meaningful and effective philanthropy.

Sunset Park is a Mecca for authentic Mofongo and Móle, but it is also fertile ground for putting the Mayor’s PlaNYC into action. PlaNYC focuses on improving New York City’s environment through initiatives focused on land, air, water, energy, and transportation throughout the city, and this Brooklyn neighborhood already has a history of taking action on the environment.
Thanks to the work of UPROSE (United Puerto Rican Organization of Sunset Park) and other community groups, environmental victories in this neighborhood include the defeat of a proposed 520-megawat power plant, funding for a greenway along the waterfront, and $36 million toward cleaning up toxic contamination.
Instead of paying the consequences of living in the shadow of a polluting power plant, the community is investing in ways to cut their greenhouse gas emissions. With our grant of $50,000, UPROSE will host bi-monthly community meetings to review projects that include irrigations systems to capture and recycle rainwater, tree plantings, and green roof installations. The group will also organize an environmental conference for youth and hold workshops to teach residents how to save energy and money in their homes.
