Support LGBTQ New York | New York Community Trust
New York is home to arguably the most vibrant and historically significant LGBTQ communities in the world. At The Trust, you can join other donors dedicated to helping these New Yorkers.

Improve Health

Health care providers need to understand LGBTQ New Yorkers’ unique needs. We’ve helped:

  • Expand SAGE (Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders) into a health provider serving all five boroughs.
  • Launch the first substance-abuse treatment program designed for LGBTQ youth.

The Trust helped Immigration Equality recruit and train pro bono attorneys to take asylum cases for LGBT immigrants seeking safe haven. These two asylum seekers, Dmitry (left) and Tony, were helped by the organization.
Seeking Asylum
The Trust helped Immigration Equality take more asylum cases for LGBT immigrants seeking safe haven. Dmitry (left) and his partner Tony were helped by the organization.
Champion Rights

Despite progress, LGBTQ New Yorkers still face obstacles. We’ve helped:

  • Pass legislation to legalize same-sex marriage in New York.
  • Win asylum for immigrants persecuted abroad for their sexual identities.
  • Help trans New Yorkers understand their Medicaid health care rights.
Senior Community
Senior Community
The Trust funds several efforts to support LGBT older adults throughout the city.
Build Community

We bring LGBTQ New Yorkers together at every age and in every borough. We’ve helped:

  • Provide housing, mental health care, legal help, and other support for homeless teens, many of whom were ostracized by their families because of their sexuality.
  • Run programs at senior centers in Queens and Brooklyn that serve gays and lesbians in their neighborhoods.
  • Train LGBTQ youth of color to become leaders.
