John Oddy, NYCT Senior Director of Donor Services

There are many ways to work with the New York Community Trust and have an impact locally. Whether it’s protecting the environment, improving education, or supporting the arts, The Trust will help you maximize your charitable giving.

John Oddy:

To get started, we accept a wide range of assets; cash, securities, life insurance policies, and many more. We know non-profits and we make sure that your grant goes to effective, well-managed non-profits that make a difference. The following are ways that you can work with us to have a charitable impact.

John Oddy:

If you would like to give to the charities of your choice, in an easy and tax-efficient way, consider setting up a donor-advised fund. You fund it and suggest grants, we invest it and make your grants. Our online portal, MyNYCT, is a fast and effective way to give to charities across the nation. You can involve friends, family, and the next generation in your charitable decisions.

John Oddy:

You can name the fund for yourself, a loved one, or even have it remain anonymous. You may start a donor-advised fund with as little as $5,000, but the sky is the limit.

Marie D’Costa, Chief Development & Marketing Officer:

At the New York Community Trust, we specialize in building personalized, charitable legacies that champion the causes you care about in perpetuity. These powerful gifts are actually quite simple to set up. A paragraph in your will can create a permanent fund dedicated to helping the causes and communities important to you for generations. These gifts are built to withstand the test of time and ensure that your generosity will always be used to address issues in a strategic and timely way.

Marie D’Costa:

Our expert staff will make sure your gift is invested soundly, and grants are made on your behalf to effective organizations. You can choose the name for your fund or remain anonymous. Creating this permanent fund also makes you eligible to join our Legacy Society, a community of donors dedicated to making life better for so many. Working with The Trust is tax-advantageous. You can choose from our investment options and grow your fund tax-free over time. Because we are a public charity, you get the maximum benefit allowed by law.

John Oddy:

If you would like to get philanthropic advice and guidance, tailored to your own personal interests, please consider using our charitable advising services. Individuals, families, foundations, and corporations, use the trust to assist with their own charitable giving. Some donors use The Trust in lieu of hiring staff.

Amanda Novick, NYCT Philanthropy Manager:

If you’re interested in working with other funders to pull resources around important issues, you may want to join one of our Funder Collaboratives. For decades, we have brought together individuals, foundations, and corporations to address the challenges facing New York City, Long Island, and Westchester. By working together, we can tackle bigger problems and create long-lasting change.

Marie D’Costa:

If you would like to help New Yorkers face today’s most pressing issues, consider giving to our Community Needs Fund. We use your contributions to address our city’s most urgent needs through grants to effective local non-profits. Contributions of all sizes are combined to make the greatest impact in our region. Thank you.
