Although we make competitive grants year-round, we periodically issue Requests for Proposals (RFPs) or seek Letters of Interest (LOIs) for special grantmaking programs. Sometimes the opportunity is closed and the RFP/LOI is open to selected nonprofits; other times it is open for any nonprofit that wishes to apply.

  1. The National and International Environment Program starts the process with an LOI, which can be submitted through the Grants Portal during three-week windows each fall (late September) and winter (late February). These LOIs should be no more than four pages and include a description of the project, proposed activities, and a preliminary budget. You can watch the most recent information session here.
  2. Eligible arts groups may apply for capacity-building support through The Trust’s Arts Capacity Building RFP which is typically released in January of each year with a March proposal deadline and June decision (RFP available here). Requests should focus on discrete projects that take place over a two- or three-year period and should not exceed $75,000 annually. Development/fundraising and capital projects are not permitted.
  3. The Fund for Astrophysical Research annually awards grants to support scientific investigations and research, primarily in astronomy, astrophysics and allied subjects. In the spring, we will issue a Request for Proposals which needs to be submitted through the Grants Portal. When the RFP is posted, be sure to read the instructions before applying. For additional information, you can view a previous RFP below.
