Although we make most of our competitive grants year-round, we periodically issue Requests for Proposals (RFPs) or seek Letters of Interest (LOIs) for special grantmaking programs. Sometimes the opportunity is closed; for example, the RFP is mailed to a selected list of nonprofits; others are open for any nonprofit that wishes to apply.
The national and international environment program starts the process with an LOI, which can be submitted through the Grants Portal during three-week windows each fall (late September) and winter (late February). In 2019, the next submission window will open on February 25. These LOIs should be no more than four pages and include a description of the project, proposed activities, and a preliminary budget.
The Heisman Trophy Youth Development Fund begins with an LOI process. The application can be submitted through the Grants Portal each winter. LOI submission for the 2019 cycle will be open from February 19 to March 25. The LOI should be no more than four pages and include an issue statement, description of the project (including goals, amount of time youth will participate in programming, demographics of participants and neighborhoods), names and qualifications of staff involved, and a project budget. You can download the 2019 LOI instructions here.
